Montt Mardie
MONTY THE PIRATE
With half a page in Music Week this week and a top 10 placing in YouTube’s most viewed video chart in 10 countries, Mr Montt Mardié has not been idle. Inspired by the huge debate raging within the industry over downloading, he has written an ode to the contentious web site ‘The Pirate Bay’ now being hailed as a file-sharing anthem. ‘We Are All the Pirate Bay’ has raised hackles everywhere, generated over 150,000 hits on Youtube and 50 remixes in just 4 days, incensed the music industry, created a forum for reams of highly-opinionated (and hilarious) blogging, and thrown wide the doors for the intensely divisive file-sharing debate, all in just over two weeks. His lyrics have been widely misinterpreted (adding to the dispute), but to clarify the real meaning, Monty has released a manifesto found here on his website. If you are feeling creative, do as the man says, download the parts “re-mix, re-make, re-seed, re-edit and re-enjoy”Check out some of the crazy comments posted on Youtube, including, “best song ive ever heard. it made me cry”, “Montt Mardié you are my hero” “im a somalian pirate, and i love TPB”“pirate bay! Woooooo It's soo good, even when i do buy albums from itunes, i delete them immediately and redownload from TPB!!”Monty- a sane man in a mad world.
